Here in Malaysia this means that the roads will be jam packed for at least the next 24 hours as every Chinese Malaysian heads home to their family; fireworks will be booming long into the night for the next week or so as celebrations continue all over KL; and we will be surrounded by endless Chinese drumming and dragon parades both in and outside of school.
For the last few weeks we’ve been chowing down on the giagantic boxes of mandarin oranges that symbolize prosperity (by virtue of being round and somewhat goldish in color) for the new year; enjoying the not-so-soothing sounds of Chinese “happy new year” music in every store or restaurant in the city; and gearing up for our special 4-day weekend, which commences right now!
Last year we were able to make it up to Laos for this holiday, but this year we’ve given up. All we can manage is to stay around KL, sleep in, eat out, and take advantage of the increadibly cheap massages in the beautiful spa down the street. Sounds like an excellent start to the new year to me!
Wishing you a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
