OK, let me warn you. This is really gross. Really gross. Read on at your own risk…
After having lived in Munich, Germany for 5 years, we moved to KL, Malaysia in July 2005. About one week after we moved in to our apartment we noticed that water was seeping from under my built-in cabinet in the bedroom. We called the landord and thus ensued about a month of constant destruction, reconstruction, and non-resolution of said leak. We had small Chinese men running around our apartment every day for the entire month. Oh, have I mentioned that this was all happening during my first weeks at my new job? And that we were unable to use our shower because the cause of the leak was (falsely) determined to be our bathtub?
So, as I said, this little extravaganza/construction worker party lasted for quite a while before they finally figured out what the problem was. This is the gross part, people.
The problem was that the main drainage pipe for our side of the building had cracked. In the ceiling of our apartment. And the disgusting water was filling up the space in the wall between our two bathrooms. And, according to Alex, there were some sort of wormy things living in the slime that had accumulated along the side of the wall.
This is what it looked like:
You can see the filthy water accumulating at the bottom along with the sludge building up the side (I assume that’s where the worms were).
It was honestly, and truly, the most disgusting thing I could have ever imagined causing that leak in our bedroom. Thankfully there was no smell at all and the crack was relatively small so I don’t think any actual “objects” could have slipped out. Nonetheless, it was totally gross.
