With only one week left, I’m trying to find the perfect Malaysian souvenir – for myself, of course! Something extra special that I would not normally buy, but also something that I could actually use, and proudly say “it’s from Malaysia!”
When we left Germany, my school gave me two beautiful Villeroy & Boch crystal decanters (which I picked out myself) so I want something that will look good with these beauties:

Basically, I’m imagining a perfect dining room with extravagant souvenirs from all around the world. I’m not sure when I’ll ever be able to afford the room (or even the table), but I think I can manage a few special pieces here and there.
So, I thought I had decided on this beautiful four-arm candelabra from Royal Selangor (an iconic Malaysian company):

but today I saw the two-arm version, and it’s quite nice as well:

And now I can’t decide! Which do you think is better?

I think I like the two-armed one better.
Personally I love the four-arm candelabra but that’s just me. I find the two-arm a little plain but perhaps it’ll be nice in certain environments… they are both nice.
When you mention souvenir from Malaysia, Royal Selangor Pewter is exactly what come into my mind. Keris dagger would be a good memento too. I’m glad you enjoyed your stay here (Malaysia).
Fez.
I think the two-arm version looks best, but they’re both quite classy.
Forget the candelabra–go for the goblets! Nothing says classy like some fancy pewter goblets….besides, in what are you going to drink whatever is in those decanters? Plain wine glasses? I don’t think so…….
In all seriousness, I love them both, but I think a two-armed candelabra is a bit less obstructing on a table.
Thanks for all the advice – I see an overwhelming appreciation for the two-arm here, but we ended up going for the four arm. As my friend, Jabiz, said, if it’s got “abra” at the end of the name, it’s got to be all-out or nothing. So, four arm it is!
Well – I’m a little late in the voting game (as I was vacationing!), but I was going to vote for the two arm as it reminds me of Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. But, four arms are always better than one, right?
Oops – I meant FOUR arms are better than TWO. Duh.
Why stop at one? Get both! Fantastic souvenirs of your time in Malaysia
The gobblets ARE a good call. I bought the photo fram that is the skyline of KL holding two pieces of glass that you slide the photos between. Of course, I don’t know where it is, but that’s not so important now that I’m back in SE Asia. Thinking of you lots as you make your move.
i dont like both…
they are too classic, and dull.
sorry..
