The little things that make every day a pleasure:
- Waking up to tropical birds tweeting outside the window
- Feeling the warm breeze on my skin while walking to work
- Sharing a real laugh with my witty colleagues
- Feeling like a kid when I discover something new with my students
- The feel of fat, warm rain drops just starting to pelt down as I reach the overhang of my building
- The plush softness of Persian carpets under my feet as soon as I remove my shoes at the door
- The sudden rush of wind through the apartment signaling a storm
- The sound of a real rain storm – pouring rain, cracking lightning and rumbling thunder
- The bright, clear sky after a rain
- The sound of the wind rustling the tips of the trees just outside our balcony
- Being able to watch TV in English – no pressure to translate every word, or try to read lips
- Falling asleep on the most comfortable mattress I have ever owned, with the fluffiest down comforter to keep me cozy in the aircon
- Knowing that when I wake up in the morning it will be warm and sunny – again
- Realizing that I really do belong in the tropics
What do you like about your day?

Beautiful post, Kim.
Here are a few of my pleasures:
-Glimpsing the ocean every once in while when I driving
-The view of a hill that cats like to climb from my office window
-Warm socks
The ocean. That’s what I’m seriously missing. Every time we move I say: “next time must be in view of the ocean.” So far, no luck…
